I'm Alice, maker/artist behind Bread & Roses Handcrafts. I work in my little studio (a former Lifeguard hut) at my home in Co. Mayo, where I live with my husband and daughter. When I'm not making things, I like to grow food and herbal teas which I dehydrate to drink all year round. The garden is a place where our family can work and learn together, and cooking with our own homegrown food is a huge added bonus!

I called my business Bread & Roses Handcrafts after the poem, Bread and Roses, and in particular my favourite line, 

"Hearts starve as well as bodies; 

give us bread, but give us roses." 

I have previously worked in non-profits, in retail and marketing, but for me working creatively is what feeds my heart. I find great joy in creating beautiful items from sustainable materials.
